In the heart of the cosmopolitan city of Miami what appears to be one of the most important deposits in the United States. With a about 2,000 years old, it is the foundations of an old Tequesta Indian town.
The Deposit It is made up of eight large circles in which there are post holes dug directly into the virgin limestone, on which the base of a native settlement would once have been laid. The archaeologist director of the excavations, Bob Carr, has declared in an interview that it is an architectural revelation, as it is one of the oldest towns in North America. The site has also revealed artifacts and objects of the Tequesta Indians, bones and tools made of shells.
Where it appeared, the MDM Development Group had a construction project that has been interrupted until finalize the site survey, the results of which have not yet been fully published. Historic and Heritage Conservation Authorities of the State of Florida and Miami-Dade County are negotiating a re-study of the MDM project that offers alternatives to save, if not all, at least part of the deposit.
One of the proposals offered by the promoter of the company has been take advantage of the structure formed by large circles of the site and integrate one or two of them in a public square, so that it looks like an outdoor exhibition.
Do you think it is a good idea or on the contrary they should do their best to rescue the entire site?
Romantic, in the artistic sense of the word. In my adolescence both family and friends reminded me over and over that I was an inveterate humanist, as I spent time doing what perhaps others not so much, believing myself to be Bécquer, immersed in my own artistic fantasies, in books and movies, constantly wanting to travel and explore the world, admired for my historical past and for the wonderful productions of the human being. That is why I decided to study History and combine it with Art History, because it seemed to me the most appropriate way to carry out the skills and passions that characterize me: reading, writing, traveling, researching, knowing, making known, educating. Disclosure is another of my motivations, because I understand that there is no word that has real value if it is not because it has been transmitted effectively. And with this, I am determined that everything I do in my life has an educational purpose.
